Manmohan Singh's US visit not aimed at diminution of Pak importance: Holbrooke
Karachi News.Net Tuesday 24th November, 2009 (ANI)
Washington, Nov.24 : US Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, has said that Pakistan need not worry about Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh's US visit, as the Obama administration is trying to strengthen its ties with all the three big countries of the region, which include China and Pakistan.
"This visit should not be read in Pakistan as a diminution of the importance we attach to it," Holbrooke said.
He said the US is 'delighted' to host Dr. Singh on his first visit to Washington in President Barack Obama's regime.
"We want that every country gains from this relationship," The Daily Times quoted Holbrooke, as saying.
Dr. Singh's US visit is being watched closely in Pakistan, as the country's leadership is worried about India asking the White House to use its influence in the region to force Islamabad to cut down its anti-India campaigns.
Earlier, addressing the Council On Foreign Relations in Washington Dr.Singh said Pakistan should abjure terrorism and come to the table with good faith and sincerity.
"My government has invested heavily over the past few years in normalizing relations with Pakistan. We made considerable progress on the road to a durable and permanent settlement of all outstanding issues. I have said that we are ready to pick up the threads of the dialogue, including on issues related to Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
Dr. Singh stressed that India wants peace and prosperity in the region.
"For this to happen, Pakistan must make a break with the past, abjure terrorism and come to the table with good faith and sincerity. It is my solemn hope that India and Pakistan can together move forward to write a new chapter in the history of the sub-continent," he said. Email this story to a friend

Manmohan Singh's US visit not aimed at diminution of Pak importance: Holbrooke
The sub-continent was divided on religous basis into India and Pakistan. Muslim majority areas were to become Pakistan and Hindu majority areas to become India. India through it’s conspiracy with Lord Mount Battan and Red Cliff occupied the Muslim majority state of Kashmir. It has deployed 700,000 troops into the region of Kashmir more than the US forces fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. It promised the Kashmiris to choose between India and Pakistan through a plebisite in United Nations and now it has backed away from it’s promise. Kashmiris gave oppertunity to India to fullfil it’s promise but after India backed away they started a freedom struggle in 1989 which was met with brutal force from India and resulted in hudred of thousand of killings of innocent Kashmiris. It want US to call the Kashmiri freedome fighters as Pakistan sponsored terrorists. Now it is saying it can talk only after the so called terrorist (Kashmiri freedome fighters) stop fighting India. Is 63 year of wait is not enough. India is not sincere it’s efforts, not Pakistan. Kashmir has been drag on Indian economy and now 1400 million people live under the threat of nuclear War.

My dear Pakistani friend
The real drag on INdia has been the reluctance of our leaders to deal with elements in Pakistan in the only way they understand . If you are living under a threat of a nuclear war , why dont you ask your leaders to focus on economic growth rather than throwing up the Indian bogey everytime . Allah has blessed you with an understanding neighbour like INdia . Imagine if you had China or the US as your neigbour ...and people operating from your country had resorted to a Mumbai type attack ...U would be wiped out .. But India will not remain this way ..patience is soon running out .It is time the vaerage Pkaistani got objective rather be led downhill

Can u tell me what the average Pakistani has got out of the wars fought with India . The wars have only made your and our politicians divert issues. The average man on both sides has been deprived of economic upliftment .Your military is using the Indian bogey to retain power . Sure Pakistan may slow down INdia’s growth , but what about Pkaistan itself . Wouldnt Pakistan want to emerge as a strong economy ...rather than playing other peoples games ...be it US or China . Look at how rich your leaders have got in the last 60 years and where the average man is .Dont you think the average Pkaistani should chart his own future with the realty of today
