Three suspects arrested for Pakistani PM convoy attack
Karachi News.Net Thursday 4th September, 2008 (ANI)
Islamabad, Sept. 4 : Pakistani police have arrested three persons who are suspected to have been involved in shooting at the prime minister's motorcade on Wednesday afternoon.
The private Geo TV quoted Tariq Kohsa, head of the investigation committee and the national police bureau, as saying that the damaged places were not the sign of stones. He disclosed that the third car in the convoy was hit by a long-range rifle.
The report will be submitted to the interior ministry.
On Wednesday, gunmen fired shots at Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani's motorcade in a high security zone on the Islamabad Highway.
"The prime minister and his staff were not in the car," Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah said. A statement by the Prime Minister's House said that two of a number of sniper shots fired on the prime minister's vehicle hit the window on the driver's side.
On the same say, the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
